The Customer App Route Map: Showing Customers Their Place in the Cleaning Team's Day
Some customers are happy with a single text when the team is on the way. Others like to see for themselves. They want to know if the team is two homes away or six, whether they have time to run to the store, or whether they should finish their call in the other room. For those customers, a live route map answers the question before they pick up the phone.
One Step Beyond the Text
The automatic texts that go out from the team app are covered in On-the-Way and Arrived Texts: Letting Customers Know the Cleaning Team Is Coming. The customer app route map adds a picture to those messages.
What the Customer Sees
On cleaning day, the MaidBossPro customer app shows today's route on a live map, with the customer's place in line. A typical message reads: “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.”
That one line answers almost every question a customer has on cleaning day. How far away is the team? Roughly how long until they arrive? Is the team on schedule? The customer does not need to know anything about the other homes on the route to get the picture.
Why It Cuts Down on Calls
“Where are they?” calls are one of the biggest time drains in a cleaning office. Each one is short, but they come at the worst time, in the middle of the morning when the office is handling call-outs and new requests. And each one means the office has to look up the team, guess where they are, and give an answer that may be wrong in ten minutes.
A customer who can open the app and see “5 stops away” does not call. A customer who sees “next stop” goes and opens the door. The answer is always current, because it follows the team's real progress through the route.
Route Order Matters Here
The customer's place in line comes from the route order on the board. That is another good reason to keep the order up to date. If the office moves a customer from stop 3 to stop 6, the customer app shows them as stop 6. If a home moves to another team on a sick day, the customer sees the new team's route.
Auto-route Closest First or Furthest First from the office gives a sensible driving order. Setting route order by hand puts fixed-time customers where they need to be. Together they make the customer's place in line a meaningful number rather than a random one.
The Rest of the Customer App
The route map is one piece of the customer app. The same app lets customers:
- Request service, like an extra clean before a holiday visit.
- Sign up for services and see your pricing.
- Update their card on file.
- See invoices and pay online.
- Rate a visit and refer a friend.
- See before-and-after photos on past visits, when the owner turns them on.
- Set their alert preferences: night before, when they're next, and when the team arrives.
Customers who open the app for the route map often end up using it for the rest, which means fewer calls about invoices and card updates too.
Privacy for Other Customers
A fair question from owners is whether one customer can see another customer's home. The customer sees their own place in the route and how many stops away the team is. That is the information they need, without exposing anyone else's address. Customers on the same street do not need to know each other's cleaning day.
Introduce It at Sign-Up
The route map only helps if customers know it exists. Mention it when a new customer starts: “On cleaning day you can open the app and see how many stops away your team is.” Many customers will try it the first time just out of curiosity, and keep using it.
It pairs especially well with arrival windows. A customer told “your team will arrive in the morning” who can watch the team move through stops 1, 2 and 3 feels informed rather than left waiting.
From the Office Side
The office sees the same day from the other direction: team GPS on the office map shows where every team is. That view is covered in Team GPS on the Office Map: Knowing Where Every Cleaning Team Is. Between the customer's map and the office's map, everybody knows where the team is without a single phone call. For the rest of the scheduling tools, see the MaidBossPro cleaning scheduling software page.
