Mixing Long and Short Cleans in One Team Day

Not every home takes the same amount of time. A small weekly condo might take a team a little over an hour. A large monthly home with pets and extras can take most of a morning. A deep clean can take the whole day. Most team days are a mix, and how you mix them decides whether the team ends the day tired but satisfied or rushed and behind.

The Big Jobs Are Only Half the Story

Placing deep cleans and move-outs on the right day is covered in Fitting Deep Cleans and Move-Outs Between Recurring Homes. Once a big job is on a team's day, the next question is how the rest of the day fits around it.

Read the Size Off the Board

The first step is knowing which stops are long and which are short. On the MaidBossPro dispatch board, each job shows its cleaning details under the address:

Filter the board by team and you can see the mix for one day at a glance. You will quickly learn what a comfortable day looks like for each of your teams. Every team has a different pace, and your teams will tell you when you have it wrong.

Common Ways to Mix a Day

There is no single right answer, but a few patterns work well for many cleaning companies:

Talk to your team leads about what they prefer. Some teams like the hard part out of the way. Some like to build up to it.

Watch the Extras

Extras are where a short clean quietly becomes a long one. Inside Oven, Inside Fridge, Inside Cabinets, Interior Windows, Blinds, Walls & Doors and Laundry all add time. A weekly home with “+ Inside Oven, Inside Fridge” this week is not the same stop as last week's weekly.

Because extras show on the board as “+ Change Linens” or “+ Inside Oven,” you can spot them while building the day. And because they also show on the team's phone, the team knows before they walk in that this visit has extra work.

Use Route Order to Place the Long Stop

Auto-route sorts a team's homes by driving distance. It does not know which home is the big one. After auto-routing, look at where the long clean ended up. If it landed last and you would rather it go first, move it by setting the route order by hand. The rest of the list keeps its driving order, and the team's phone shows the new sequence.

Keep the customers in mind too. If the long clean goes first, the short homes later in the day will get the team later than usual. Alerts like “when they're next” and the on-the-way text will tell those customers when the team is actually coming, and the customer app shows their place in the route.

Leave a Little Slack

Long cleans are the hardest to estimate. A deep clean on a home you have never seen can run long for reasons nobody could predict: more clutter than expected, a stubborn shower, a surprise pet. A day packed tight around a deep clean has no room for that.

Many owners leave the last stop on a deep-clean day as something that could move to tomorrow without upsetting anyone, like a flexible monthly customer. If the deep clean runs long, the office can text that customer early and move the job. That is much better than a team rushing a weekly home at 5pm.

Learn From Each Week

Over time, the board teaches you. If Team 1 always finishes late on days with a deep clean and two recurring homes, give them one recurring home on those days. If Team 3 finishes early every time they have all short cleans, they can take one more. Team GPS on the office map and the Complete taps from the team app show you how days actually go. Arrival windows, covered in Arrival Windows and Call-Ahead: Promising a Time Without Boxing In the Team, help you set honest expectations for customers whose clean follows a long one.
