Holidays and Reschedules: Moving a Week of Cleanings Without Losing Anyone
Holiday weeks are some of the busiest and most awkward weeks for a cleaning company. Customers want their homes clean before guests arrive, teams want time off, and one day of the week simply disappears. Add the ordinary reschedules that happen every week (“can we do Monday instead?”) and it is easy for a home to slip through the cracks.
Fixed Slots Make Holidays Visible
In MaidBossPro, recurring homes keep a fixed slot, and every visit is already on the schedule months ahead. That is good news in a holiday week: you can open the board weeks early and see exactly which homes land on the day you are closing. One-off holiday requests, like a pre-party deep clean, go on the Waiting List covered in The Waiting List Map: One-Off Cleanings Waiting to Be Booked until you book them.
Plan Holiday Weeks Early
The worst way to handle a holiday is on the day before it. A few weeks ahead, look at the board for the holiday week and decide:
- Which day is off? Most companies close on the major holidays. Some close the day after too.
- Where do those homes go? Earlier in the week, later in the week, or the following week.
- Who wants extra? Many customers ask for a clean right before guests arrive. Those requests come early, so leave room for them.
- Who on the team is off? Holiday weeks are when people take time off. Know who is working before you build the days.
It also helps to decide how you will handle the holiday requests that are not part of the normal rhythm. A customer who is every two weeks may want an extra clean the day before family arrives. A monthly customer may want to move up a week. Decide ahead of time whether you will take those, which teams have room, and whether they are priced as a normal visit or something more, like a $185 pre-holiday clean. Saying yes to everyone in December is how teams burn out.
Then tell customers. A text or email a couple of weeks ahead (“We're closed Thursday for the holiday. Your clean will be Wednesday this week”) heads off most surprises.
Moving the Homes
On the MaidBossPro dispatch board, moving a job means giving it a different day, and a different team if needed. For a holiday, the cleanest approach is usually to keep each home with its usual team and shift it one day. Filter the board by team for the days before and after the holiday and see where there is room.
After moving homes, auto-route each affected team's days again, then check any fixed-time stops. The team's phone shows the new list, and the customer's alerts follow the new day.
The Slot Stays Put
A common worry is that moving a recurring home will break its rhythm for good. In MaidBossPro, it does not. When you move one visit from the schedule, only that visit changes. If an every-two-weeks home normally cleaned on Thursday is cleaned on Wednesday for the holiday, the next visit is still on Thursday two weeks later, in its usual slot.
If the change is meant to last, such as a customer who wants Fridays from now on, use Change on the Recurring Cleanings list instead. It updates the day, time, team or price for all upcoming visits, and finished visits stay as they are. Two-way texting keeps that conversation simple.
Ordinary Reschedules
Outside holidays, reschedules come in one at a time. A customer has a contractor coming, a sick kid, an early flight. A few habits help:
- Check before you say yes. Filter the requested day by the customer's usual team and see if there is room.
- Keep the team if you can. Moving the day is easier on the customer than moving the day and the team.
- Note why. “Customer asked to move to Monday, contractor Thursday” on the job explains the change later.
- Confirm by text. A short confirmation keeps the new day clear for both sides.
Customers can also request service through the customer app, which gives the office a written request rather than a voicemail.
When Moving Isn't Possible
Sometimes there is no room to move a home within the week. Then the choice is between pushing it to the next week or skipping a visit. Skips and cancellations have their own guide, Skips and Cancellations: Handling the Homes That Fall Off the Cleaning Schedule. The short version: ask the customer what they prefer, then either move that one visit to a new day or skip it. The rest of the series stays in its slot.
After the Holiday
The week after a holiday is when a quick check matters most. Look back over the holiday week on the board, make sure every moved visit was completed or skipped with a reason, and clear any holiday requests still sitting on the Waiting List. It takes a few minutes and catches the one customer who would otherwise call wondering why nobody came. For the rest of the scheduling tools, see the MaidBossPro cleaning scheduling software page.
